BIG SEXY - "Web of Deception"

MUSIC FARMER 5 - Review by Adam Jones

A Musical Journey Through Heartache and Healing

And we're back with the Michigan/Ukraine-based duo BIG SEXY and their latest single "Web of Deception." Led by Gary Maccagnone and Ukrainian composer Alex Goroshko, the song is both musically exhilarating and rich in narrative depth. The opening groovy guitar riff immediately sets an engaging tone, reminiscent of Tom Petty, inviting the listener into a world of rhythmic allure.

Gary Maccagnone's vocals burst onto the scene with a fiery passion that merges the heartfelt sincerity of Paul Simon with the melodic charm of Keane. As he sings the verse, there's an intriguing contrast created by the lively beats and the reflective lyrics about realizing one's self-worth amidst a troubled relationship. This mix of uplifting music with such contemplation captures the listener, drawing them into a unique emotional soundscape.

The chorus of "Web of Deception" elevates the track to sparkling celestial heights. Harmonies take wing, with Gary Maccagnone's voice reaching skyward, propelled by a guitar progression that imbues the song with a nearly spiritual essence. This part of the song feels like a release, as if the music itself is offering a path to emotional liberation.

An epic guitar solo by Alex Goroshko marks the bridge, which nods to Van Halen's high-flying escapades yet is infused with a light, folk-pop feel reminiscent of modern Eagles. This section not only showcases BIG SEXY's musical versatility but also keeps the listener anchored in the song’s vibrant atmosphere.

The song concludes with a return to the impassioned chorus, now intensified, before closing on an enigmatic minor six chord, followed by a lone cymbal crash. This ending feels like a narrative closure—a final note that suggests resolution and healing from the emotional upheaval portrayed throughout the track.
